FAQ

Why learn self-defense?
What would you do if someone attacked you unexpectedly? What if they had a weapon? How would you react to save yourself or others? People often think about taking a self-defense course, but they never quite get to it. You never know when you might need to defend yourself. Panic can lead to more harm than good. Learn what your first reaction should be, what to do next, how to become more aware, and how not to become a victim. We'll teach you lifelong skills you can use in almost any situation to protect yourself.

How can this benefit my children or me?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Self Defense training impart security, self-confidence, self-discipline, self-esteem, harmony, respect, and mental and physical fitness. Class training will challenge you to improve your skills and teach you how to remain calm in a difficult situation. Safety is very important and we strive to ensure our training environment is always as safe as possible. Our students have fun training while improving their own skills and knowledge. Several times a year we hold seminars with world champions and give you the opportunity of learning from the best of the best. Additionally, local tournaments offer all students the opportunity to test their skills against others.

How is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu different from other martial arts?
Each martial art is unique; however Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a proven self-defense method. Many marital arts are good for teaching discipline, increasing your fitness level, and helping one's self-esteem. But few actually work in a real life situation and are relatively ineffective (compared to what you may have seen in movies). Most fights end up on the ground, so if you can outwit your opponent on the ground, you are less likely to become a victim. A person with as little as one year of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can easily overcome a larger person because it is based upon skill, not size. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not a mass marketed art like many others. It's instructors spend many years improving their own skills -- belts are not given out so quickly as with other martial arts; therefore, someone holding a high degree belt signifies their devotion to the art.
